Gathering Feedback

Gathering Feedback

April has become the month for gathering feedback on my work in progress, the YA novel about the haunted amusement park. My partner and muse, Mol, was the first to complete the read through and we had several great conversations about their impressions, ideas and suggestions. Through the course of those conversations, I came up with some ideas of my own. The next version is going to be so much better.

I’ve also engaged a sensitivity reader through Blue Cactus Press – thank you, Christina Vega, for help finding that resource. I will get that feedback later this month. And I’m also going to get impressions and suggestions from my writing group friends. I am also searching for a resource or two who can talk to me about being adopted and not finding out until late childhood/adolescence/early adulthood.

Other novel stuff I’ve done – I’ve reserved some time with the awesome Jenny Bartoy, who edited my short story, Playing in the Sandbox, for the Creative Colloquy anthology Volume 8. Jenny was a delight to work with and I’m excited to see what she has to say about my manuscript. She’s going to do a manuscript review, and that gives me my next deadline – July 15. I’ve got until then to complete the next round of revisions.

In other writing news, Mud Flat Press (Gabby and Alec Clayton) invited me to submit a story for an anthology they are putting together. I completed an initial draft this morning and sent it off to them. Fingers crossed.

I expect to be pretty busy over the next few months. Hopefully there will be plenty of time for hammock lounging, and the weather to go with it.

Take care, and read some good stories!
